S/S City of Chicago, shipwreck – underwater video.

The steamship 'City of Chicago' was a passenger liner that ran into the Old Head of Kinsale in fog in 1892. All passengers (and their baggage!) were rescued on to the cliffs above, the ship being able to keep her propellor turning until everybody was safely off. Afterwards, she listed and eventually broke up. Today, the wreck is a popular dive in shallow water, on the west side of the Old Head of Kinsale.

After the violent storms of the past winter, much of the kelp and seaweed growth has been reduced on the dive site, so we were hoping to get some video on the first weekend of the diving season with Oceanaddicts. I have been experimenting with using a GoPro action camera for underwater video for the past while and working to find a combination of filtration and lighting that would give the best results for our cool, green waters. Even in poor visibility, it is possible to get decent results. Join us on a GoPro Video Workshop next month to pick up some 'tricks of the trade'...
